Thor 2: The Dark World Review

Cast: Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Christopher Eccleston.
Screenplay By: Christopher Yost, Christopher Markus, Stephen Mcfeely.
Directed By: Alan Taylor.
Based On: Marvel Comics ‘Thor’ by Stan Lee.

Thor 2: The Dark World is another American Superhero movie based on Marvels; Thor. The 2013 movie is following Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) battle with the Dark Elf Malekith (Christopher Eccleston), fighting for a dark weapon known as the Aether that Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) has taken into herself. Thor must save Asgard, London and the world, as he fights against, darkness, evil and family.

Off screen photography for this movie started in Surrey, UK and moved around places from Iceland to London which is a large but successful contrast with how they used it. These locations digitally messed with as well as the full on (Non-existent; don’t hate me) worlds of Asgard and Svartalfheim. It’s a mesmerizing range of images that allow you to escape as well as enjoy.

Acting within this movie or even this type of movie needs to be a lot more appreciated in my opinion and I say this because; we see a world and when filming all they see is green, we see dark creatures in armies that change into one of the ‘Kursed’, they see a good actor growling as he stays exactly the same. I also fear that us ladies lose ourselves in muscle more than story with these films. However, the acting in this film is good, they stuck to their characters like Thor (2011) was yesterday. Chris Hemsworth succeeded again in his macho, knight style hero mode, Tom Hiddleston gives up more reasons to respect Loki as a villain; showing broken-ness and hitting us straight back to his evil ways. Anthony Hopkins was, unsurprisingly, brilliant as the father, king character, he is so stern when needed you almost feel slightly nervous to eat your popcorn too loud because you didn’t want to distract or upset him.

Now unfortunately as much as I enjoy this film and as much as these Marvel films are most teenagers and fanatics obsession at the moment I must make it fair and talk about the negatives. I feel with this movie is that the contrast between the acting and storyline kind of ruined it, by that I mean that the cast kept their original personalities, they did not stray from who they were supposed to be, but yet the movie was almost in a different world. This movie is an example of extremely traditional and extremely super being same and different and it not 100% working.

That moan being said, this movie is great fun and for me personally, it is great seeing new work with Loki. If you feel in love with Thor in the first one, you will appreciate this one, if you’re a Marvel fan I think you’ll enjoy it but you will pick at it. Whoever you are I do suggest seeing this instalment in the cinema now, it being a superhero movie makes it a huge cinema event for the year, not mention the vision and sound of it is greater in the cinema with all the fun of 3D.
