One Direction: This Is Us Review

One Direction: This Is Us (2013)

Cast: Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson.
Directed by: Morgan Spurlock.

One Direction: This Is Us is a 3-D British-Irish concert and documentary film that follows the boys around on their first worldwide tour that lets you experience the boys live and backstage, not mention their trips back home and their families.

This film is directed by Morgan Spurlock well known for his documentary projects Supersize Me (2004) and The Greatest Movie Ever Sold (2011) hand has now come back with this most popular movie about the most worldwide boy band of this generation. Again he shows his talent within the documentary genre, proving he knows what he is doing with a great structured, edited and film movie about the most loved boy band of this generation.

You get to see some great parts of the world within this movie with the boys travelling to the States, Mexico, Italy, Tokyo and more. However with the fans it's not the locations they want to see, it's the boys and what is shown really makes opens yours eye and reminds you that they literally are just boys. The humour in this movie is great, definitely makes you feel happy as you see 1D play pranks, make jokes and generally just act like boys.

The concert side of this documentary is not just entertaining in general but is great for the younger fans and other fans who have not been able to travel or afford seeing the boys in person. They don't just perform the hit singles we've all heard 100 times, they plays some of their favourite songs on the new Take Me Home album. With the 3-D option also, you really become a part of the tour.

The band in this film are portrayed as themselves, they don't come across as your typical boy band artists because they are not, you see them when they go back home and they can relax even around they people who they love for still seeing them as them, not a someone famous. You really get to feel how connected the boys are for 5 people just put together, they believe that they are there for each other for anything and that's has made them best friends or as Niall said "Brothers if you will".

The negative points of this movie, for me, are the amount of shots of screaming fans for several reasons; the loudness of the screaming which is at a all new level in sound and also I understand why they are shown but to be shown so excessively I feel in unnecessary and slightly unfair to fans in the cinema who have not had that opportunity to be that close. Plus the whole world knows how much these fans are loved, do we need be to so reminded?

All in all this movie is pure fun and very entertaining to watch and if you are a fan of the band you will find they soundtrack brilliant! It's definitely one that if your not necessarily interested take a family member or your girlfriends because they will love it! Saying that, even if your not a fan it may surprise you because it really surprised me and when I think back to my most liked parts of the movie I cannot help but smile.

My Rating: 7.5/10
