You’re Next! Film Review

You’re Next! (2013)

Cast: Sharni Vinson, Nicholas Tucci, Wendy Glenn, A. J Bowen.
Written By: Simon Barrett.
Directed By: Adam Wingard.

You’re Next! is the recent horror/thriller to hit the cinema. The movie follows a family that have all come together to stay in a house the father character bought as a retirement project. As this family are reunited and settled, they all sit down for dinner, it all seems natural till a character is murdered in front of everyone by a mysterious arrow shot through the window. The movie follows the families survival, death and bloody wounds, as they are attacked by strangers in animal masks that are extremely equip with weapons. This film has jumps, gore and twists that you may be able to see coming. How many will survive, if any?
Now the concept of this film is brilliant, unfortunately I do not think it was portrayed at it’s highest potential. The location in which it is filmed is beautiful and extremely eerie, showing an extravagant, large, old Victorian style mansion with woods as a back and front garden. The location was perfectly picked, but I still question, should it have been used for a different film? Was this location wasted?
The acting was not terrible, but with the character Erin being action man, it almost clouded the rest of the cast who still did an okay job. Erin was played well, but the persona of the character itself was over the top, everything they face, she knows how to resolve or attack at a level that is borderline ridiculous.
It’s not all bad, it is actually worth seeing, its just one of those films you wont lose anything if you don't. However, it saves the horror genre by being very jumpy, which can keep you on the edge, plus the blood, gore and violence throughout.
I think it could be re-made in the future, it’s a horror film that you can watch easy (unless your not good gore), but also makes you a bit nervous being home alone! That's one thing that did make me unsettled slightly, which was the villain is not a ghost or demon, it is human beings, greedy human beings.
My Rating: 6/10
